This is a touching business.  Here are a few of the stories that have moved me the most:

From a bereaved father whose son gave his life for our country:

This letter is in reference to our son Scott who you honored and memorialized in your art work... Kevin and Marena presented [Scott’s 10-year old daughter] Sharon* with the quilt which you created, and I had to leave the room because I was overtaken with emotion and did not want to disturb the rest of the family.  To say I was deeply moved by your art would be an understatement.

Scott was a great young man and was dedicated to his family and country... Scott’s most impressive accomplishment and the one that gave him the most joy was being a father to Sharon.  He was dedicated to that little girl and would and did endure a lot for her and to protect her... Sharon, when she saw the quilt, after studying it for a while, said, “My dad is holding me in his arms.  I MISS HIM SO.”  I hope this letter will serve as a thank you for your care, creativity and the love you have for your art... Thank you and may the LORD bless you and your family. – Al

*Not her real name.

From the Mother of the Bride who wanted something special for her daughter:

When Melissa told me that she had found someone to make a quilt for their wedding I was very excited.  You see, as Melissa’s mother I had a desire to make a quilt or something that would be from all the people who are such an important part of Melissa & Matt’s life. Also, something that they could keep and have for many years to come, but I also know how my best intentions usually don’t get completed in time and with all the wedding planning it probably wouldn’t happen.  So, I was quite relieved when Melissa told me about Fiber of Her Being and asked me to look at your site.

Kay, you did just a wonderful job with the quilt.  I am in awe and you are awesome.  When I saw the finished quilt I was almost speechless. You took all those pictures and all those envelopes of good wishes and little treasures and made the most beautiful work of art for Melissa and Matt.  Thank you so much. – Terri

From a loving grand-daughter whose pillow comforted her Nana:

My Nana passed away Wednesday... My aunt and cousins buried her special pillow you made with her.  My aunt said that she looked at the pillow often and talked about how much she missed her husband, as well as how much she loved him.  Kay, thank you again for sharing your talent to bring joy and comfort to those who need it most.  You have blessed the Bowers family more than you will ever know, and I appreciate your gracious, loving spirit.  – Dawn

From a new mother whose baby loves her portrait pillow:

Kyla (15 months) loves her pillow and as she grows, she loves different things about it.  When she was first born, she looked at her picture as if she were looking in a mirror.  Then she liked to talk about “the baby” in the picture, and we used it to practice finding her nose and eyes and ears... Now she likes looking for the cars and other objects in the printed fabric.  I just wanted you to know that this present has been a huge success, and that promises to continue for a long time. – Jessica

From a marathon runner who lost over 100 pounds, to inspire herself to keep going:

Oh my gosh....I looooooooove the [marathon t-shirt] quilt.  It is absolutely amazing.  I love the colors, love how the photos turned out, love everything about it!  I was going to hang it in my bedroom, but I’ve decided everyone who enters my house needs to see it, so I’m hanging it in my living room (plus I’ll see it more often and hopefully get more motivated).  Thank you, thank you, thank you for this fabulous masterpiece. – Amy
